| THE LAUNCH of Libertas founder Declan Ganley?s campaign for the European Parliament in the Ireland North-West constituency has been marked by a war of words with sitting Fine Gael MEP Jim Higgins. More from The Irish Times. |

| “We are led today by a group of people who have no basic understanding of economics. A group of people with no real life experience of business. “A group of people who have never, not once, created a single job, except when they do it with taxpayers’ money to employ bureaucrats instead of doctors.” ??? I was going to say that I really feel sorry for Ganley on a personal level. Having read the rest of what he said in that article though I realise that he is not as stupid as I thought he was. If he plays his cards right he may get a respectable vote. He will never get elected though or come close to being elected. Hence I still feel sorry for the man... bless.

| Noticeable that the Irish Times go straight for the 'launch marred' headline, rather than a straight report of the launch itself. The paper of record has become a strange beast under Miss Kennedy... |

| That's because Libertas are nobodies. Most of the people who voted no in the Lisbon Treaty referendum would not share their viewpoint, whatever the hell that is. I have to say that I find Libertas and their antics in Ireland and throughout Europe amusing. They are good for a laugh. They largely filled a vacuum in the last referendum because the far-left and far-right in Ireland are rubbish but again most people who voted no in the referendum would not ascribe to their views... they are sad people really... They will get media recognition for the EE and on this site because Dave is a member but the average person on the ground couldn't give a hoot about them.

| It's "marked", though, not "marred"...and papers love reporting controversy.

| It wasn't a spelling mistake, I didn't know they used the word 'marked' specifically. It is 'marred' because the purpose is to distract from the words of Libertas as articulated at the launch, by throwing up a smokescreen of controversy. That is entirely deliberate, and I doubt they'd have done it for one of their beloved PD's set-pieces.... |

| What policies will Libertas candidates be campaigning for? According to this report, they were to launch their election manifesto in Rome on March 25th, but that's been delayed to an unspecified later date: Quote:
