as a member of FG would you not rather that FF were left to wade around in the mess theyve created and take the flak for it? for them to be put out of government now would evoke a repeat of the Bruton goverment taking tough decisions and the FF playing good cop and riding the crest of the subsequent wave!

In particular, have FF voters just moved to don't know or have some actually made the leap to FG or Labour?

I suspect a very big increase in don't knows.

The point though is that there is absolutely no good news for the government for the foreseeable future. None whatsoever, and RedC polls consistently overstate FF support!! So its all a struggle for FF from here to even get 30% next year.

Of course the real immediate bright side of this is that there will no Lisbon 2. FF had the highest Yes support which is now down 14% in 2 months.

These are pretty terrible figures for the government but at the end of the day its only a poll, no matter how nice it is to see FF well down

suppose we shouldnt detract from the point but while you mention it kerrynorth...how nice would it be to see the greens vote slide in the locals and for patricia mc kenna's to increase?! kick in tha arse to the green leadership!

From a purely cynical political point of view - yes let FF stew in their own juices - from a personal point of view looking at the state of economy and projecting into the future - I will lose my job next week along with 100 of my colleagues - we are just waiting for a creditor to pull the trigger and call in a liquidator - there are hundreds of small companies in the same situation - the revenue's take is falling off a cliff - If we can't take this little bit of harsh medicine , as badly handled as it was - then I truly despair as to far we will have to fall before reality dawns on us all that the we are back , quite literally to 1981, and the last 25 years progress might not aswell happened. Im seriously concerned about this.

There was a Munster final back in the late 80s in Cork where Cork were hammering Kerry and the Kerry supporters started to leave before the final whistle (to beat the traffic, naturally) and a cry went up from Cork crowd "lock the gates, make the f$*kers watch, make dem watch." I can't help despite my belief that FG would make a better core to a alternative government feel that FF need to left in office a while more to take the consequences of their actions and inactions over the last period in government.
