| Just heard on RTE 9 o clock news. Bertie Ahern (and Blair) are among the nominees for the 2008 Noble Peace Prize. (If there is a thread on this already apologies please delete this one) Result to be announced Friday - could be sensational - President Ahern a dead cert and an "up yours" to the tribunals! |

It must be said that every year all kinds of crooks and unsuitable characters get nominated, the difference between being nominated and winning is large - although Blair in particular has many powerful friends so this raises his chances somewhat - the award itself has been tarnished in the past, Kissinger has won it - so Blair's involvement in the massive criminal act that was the Iraq war won't necessarily hurt his chances. I wish Ahern would just quietly fade into oblivion, the undignified way he is sniffing around - trying to launch himself again in Ireland is embarrassing.

| John Hume and David Trimble shared the Nobel Peace prize in 1998. If Blair and Ahern were also worthy back then, they would have shared the prize back then. Absolutely no way is the Nobel committee going to payout a second time for the same deal. Now if you said Adams and Paisley were nominated, then I would say maybe. But Ahern and Blair have absolutely no chance whatsoever.

| As I understand it the prize money is about a million euro (it was 750,000 approximately when Trimble/Hume split it a few years back) (By the way - worst, most ungracious, most nauseating speech in history - David Trimble's Nobel acceptance - a red faced bigot and a coward.) As for "president ahern" - if Bertie wins this I seriously doubt the blueshirts or labour will run anyone agaisnt him in 2011..... Incidentally i seriously doubt the nobel committee gives a fiddlers f*** about paddy the plasterer, the manchester dig out or any of that sh**e. However, the peace process in the north, the deal with paisley etc etc, that kind of thing will be long remembered, which is why Bertie is up for the award....... Just the facts lads.... try not to let your tribal "my grandaddy hated your grandaddy in 1922" angst get in the way of the bigger picture Regards R |
