Default Olive Loughnane wins silver

Just want to congratulate Olive Loughnane on winning silver in the IAAF World Athletics Championships in the womens 20km walk. Geat achievement for her and just reward for all her hard work and dedication. Real shame RTE won't be showing any of it.

P.S.Delighted also because I got 10/1 in Paddy Powers for her to medal.

Well down Olive, she is from a great Fianna Fail family in Galway. Her father Matt Loughnane was a long serving member of Galway County Council and another family member Dr Bill Loughnane was a TD for Clare.

While congratulating Olive I have to say that this sport has to be the most unnatural looking sport in the world.I always imagine when I look at it that its a race home for people who have just shat themselves.

Fantastic achievement despite the pathetic grants our athletes get from the sports council.

It is possibly the worst sport in the world. Covering 20km can be done 33% faster by running. What is the point? Why don't we have running backwards - you wouldn't need the subjective assessment of judges for it. Heartiest congratulations to her btw.

fantastic achievment and huge boost for the sport in ireland.
Just back from the down the town and the impact of the result can already been seen.
Literally 100's of people walking round the town. All ages and all on 2 legs.

Same can be said for Gaelic football - The hand passes are always dodgy, the number of steps a player takes before he has to volley the ball is dodgy, not enough points to encourage people to score a goal and is it a contact sport or not? Crazy.

Well done Olive. I suspect this will Ireland's only medal at the championship, I expect a lot of excuses by the end of the week.
