Lightbulb San Francisco: co-ed women's pleasure commune, why can't we have one ?

It strikes me that in Ireland we are still very socially conservative, we've nothing like the liberal US attitude to sexuality. Could you imagine if this commune was to exist in say Rathmines ?

Quote:
New York Times, March 13th

One Taste Urban Retreat Center, a coed live-in commune dedicated to the female orgasm hovers at the extremes.

The founder of the One Taste Urban Retreat Center, Nicole Daedone, sees herself as leading “the slow-sex movement,” one that places a near-exclusive emphasis on women’s pleasure — in which love, romance and even flirtation are not required.

“The notion of a San Francisco sex commune focused on female orgasm is part of a long and rich history of women being public and empowered about their sexuality,” said Elizabeth A. Armstrong, an associate professor of sociology at Indiana University, who has studied San Francisco’s sexual subcultures.

Ms. Cherwitz commutes to New York and offers private sensuality coaching at a satellite outpost operated by One Taste on Grand Street.

In the One Taste world, a weirdly clinical pact is made between the women and men. There is no eye contact during orgasmic meditation.

Both the strokers and strokees insist that all this OMing is really about the “hydration” of the self, the human connection, not sex.

Mr. Vetterlein, now in his 80s, was inspired by Lafayette Morehouse, a controversial 40-year-old community still in existence in suburban Lafayette, Calif., that has been conducting public demonstrations of a woman in orgasm since 1976.

Since opening One Taste, she has allowed it to go through numerous permutations; to her chagrin, it initially attracted misfits who “liked to get sloppy and grope each other,” she said.
But seriously - our culture here is very monotonous, a strong focus on the nuclear family and little true difference. To foster some diversity & creativity should we encourage some similar communes to be set up ? Should government funds be diverted from community regeneration to these sort of communes ?

I am wondering whether a trip to the 'threads started by cyberianpan' page might be a bit too disturbing for my impressionable young mind...

And what of the male?

I disagree with that. There is a great need for emotional connectivity for sex to be pleasurable.

Again, I disagree with that. Closeness is very much needed.

But yet none of the "rules" suggest that.

No telly back in them days...

And now it has... misfits who like to get sloppy and grope each other...

Well, obviously not.
Apart from the fact that the government doesn't divert funds from community generation to subsidise any other sort of living arrangements, there is also the fact that this particular entity that you refer to is merely the latest in a long line of dangerous Californian sex cults, predicated on luring in young women on the promise of sensual enlightenment only to sell them at high cost to lascivious older men paying very handsomely for the privilege.
This particular cult is based on the practices invented by Victor Baranco, a shyster and conman who realised in the early Seventies that there was a good buck and great life to be had selling 'sensuality' to horny men while posing as a guru to impressionable young women.
Baranco, along with Charles Manson, was the subject of the book 'Mindf uckers' which examined the 'acid fascism' of sex cult gurus in early Seventies and late Sixties California.
His cult is well known in its various locations as the 'purple people' since everything on their communes, including followers' clothing and the requisite stretch limos, are purple.
Baranco, before his death, was convicted of LSD possession at his Hawaii commune. But prior to that many disillusioned followers referred to practices which involved the cult leader partnering off men and women for sex while drugged with LSD, marijuana and other substances.
Nicole Daedone attended Baranco's Lafayette Morehouse and utilises all the same material and mind control methodologies as Baranco did. Her topspin on the concept is the idea of naked co-ed yoga. That permits her to perfectly target her audience (affluent hippies in search of spirituality and sex), making her outfit even more cynical and profiteering than Baranco's original.
Rick Ross's excellent cultwatch website has extensive information on both One Taste and its predecessor:
Cult Education Forum :: "Cults," Sects, and "New Religious Movements" :: Victor Baranco, Lafayette Morehouse,Nicole Daedone, One Taste - cults?
I would suggest that we do not require this sort of entity in Ireland, and not because we're uptight, or conservative or whatever euphemism CyP wishes to use. They are dangerous cynics, profiteering spectacularly on the gullibility of the naive and lonely. It's the prostitution of insecure young women to sweaty palmed older hippies, who can delude themselves that the thousands of bucks they spend for the privilege is actually 'tuition' for 'sensual education.'

Nothing surprises me about San Francisco anymore. It's been a city down the crapper for a long time now.

On what do you base this rather sweeping assertion?

Thought so. I lived there for 3 years and found it to be a wonderful place to live and work. There are far worse places than SF.
