Default The Oscars 2009 Thread

Here is a thread to compile all the comments on the Oscars - to break from "The world is f*cked!" monotony everywhere at the minute. Feel free to add your news or stuff or opinions here.

Seems it was a Slam Dunk millionaire night.

My favourite article (so far)..... Was just thinking she has become ever more annoying as she seems to have talent for carp acceptance speeches.... I'VE BEEN THIS UNBEARABLE SINCE I WAS EIGHT, SAYS WINSLET - The Daily Mash

Here is my post from the early hours on the insomniacs' thread:
Quote:
She did some fake out-of-breathery, looked like she was going to cry but couldn't be bothered, so there was a little fake welling up followed by some fake composing herself, with lots of fake fakery towards the other actresses in between. I mean, why bother? Who does it fool? You're already in a room full of bad actors, why try and sell coals to Newcastle? Fakery at its most pointless...
I should also add that Sean Penn's speech was repugnantly self-important also, lambasting California voters who voted against gay marriage, saying they would be looked on by their grandchildren with 'shame'. I'm sure they'll all change their mind now they've been lectured by an overpampered Hollywood primadonna.

Plus, child actors. The only credible argument in favour of abortion, in my view.

Just noticing the somewhat eerie comparisons between the 2009 and the 1996 Oscars:

Posthumous nominations for actors: Massimo Trosio Il Postiono 1996 and Heath Ledger Dark Knight 2009

Best Actor Nomination: Brad Pitt for (Supporting) 12 monkeys 1996 and Curious Case of Benjamin Button 2009, Sean Penn for Dead Man Walking 1994 and Milk 2009

Best Actress Nominations: Meryl Streep for Bridges of Madison County 1996 and Doubt 2009, Kate Winslett (Supporting) for Sense and Sensibility 1996 and The Reader 2009

Films about Richard Nixon nominated for best Actor/Actress/Screen play Nixon 1996 and best Film/Actor./Director/Screenplay for FrostNixon 2009

Animated films nominated for best screenplay: Toy Story 1996 and Wall-E 2009

Best Cinematography: Batman Forever 1996 and Dark Knight 2009

Just watching the news and wondering would Heath Leger have won the Oscar if he had not died. Personally I think Jack's joker set the mark and still is the standard.
