The Tricolor must be affixed to every school and the 1916 Declaration which constitutes our republican reference, must be present in each class.

Well not quite but over in France the government is going to try and get the idea of French citizenship be more deeply embeded in society:

French children are to be given a "citizen's handbook" to teach them to be better republicans, as part of national identity measures announced by the government today.

Schools will be ordered to fly the French flag and to have a copy of the 1789 Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen in every classroom.

and what ,let it fly there till its faded and torm, unless it is raised in the morning and taken in at night ,properly cared for and respected there is no point flying our flag from schools,

I presume you mean the Irish one, rather than the Red White and Blue...?

Yup, would agree largely, although the RoM&C isn't very up to date when it comes to women and slavery, which might mean that Islamic fundamentalists would have few problems with it, making the point of it all a bit moot ....

I agree that having the Irish flag in every class would be a good idea (as long as it was bolted to the floor so it could not be used as a weapon!) but i think it would be overkill to force every class to have a copy of the 1916 Declaration!!!

Would be good in theory but can't see it working, for two reasons. Firstly, thanks to us having taken our terms of debate from the UK any discussion about culture and immigration or related issues inevitably descends into a bunfight between the "send them all home unless they eat rasher sandwiches and call their kids Seamus & Maureen" camp & the "But they want to wear the burka & be beaten by their husbands, that's their culture, how dare you question it you big racist" brigade, with the inevitable result that a policy like this, however laudable would never get off the ground.

Secondly, and more importantly, given our long history of seeing all manner of crooks & scoundrels get away with murder (sometimes literally) by the expedient of wrapping themselves in the flag is hanging the tricolour from every lamp post not a bit of a hollow gesture? We have had decades of politicians & paramilitaries who have sullied it to such an extent that it has almost completely lost it's meaning, something that handing a snazzy booklet (no doubt with corporate logos all over it, they'll sell the ad space for sure) to all the kids is almost certainly not capable of erasing.

The Ireland we have, for all its flaws, is worthy of those who suffered and died for the tricolor. The Ireland you desire is not worth killing for.

I'd prefer the Proclamation, the flag is a rip-off of the French one.
