Lots of people wandering around Limerick tonight, in and out of the Georgian House and the Art Gallery, getting prints made at Limerick Printmakers with the help of Dave Lilburn, Daghdha Dance in John's Square etc. A great buzz around the Spirit Store also down by the Hunt Museum

I also heard that Thomond Park museum was packed. I love how that is culture in Limerick - close to the heart of the city.

The Garda museum was very good, though, in fairness, if you aren't interested in that sort of stuff, then you won't be converted. But i am, so it was good. And in fairness, the cops did their best - there were two hosts, one young guard, one retired, both very chatty and helpful, and feigned interest in my ramblings. They were very well informed - did you know 1/4 of the black and tans were Irish? I didn't.Top marks to the rozzers.

There are 4 floors of exhibits. Funnily enough, I was looking for stuff on O'Duffy, the troubles, and the special branch, but it was lacking on all three departments.

There are a few bits and bobs from the RUC that were donated by them. One interesting thing was a frame of a newspaper report of the search in Ballinamore woods back in the early 80's. One guard was annonymously quoted as saying the cops and army were mandated to use extreme force, ann weren't interested in taking the provos alive.

I was a bit surprised at that, I have to say.
