Oh come on, I don't usually bother getting involved in this debate but that is utter neo-colonial hogwash. the same thing the boers said about the whole of south africa; practically virgin land. Europeans didn't need much of a sop to conscience in the 19th century to invade and subjugate a nation before morning tea, this was adequate.
The middle east is now and has been overcrowded for a very long time. especially coastal and arable areas.
