Republicans move to the right in 1980, 84, and at the very end of the 1988 campaign turning a 16% deficit to a 7% lead and win. Move to the centre in 92, 96 and '00 lose twice and lose the popular vote in '00. Move to the right in '04 and win move to the centre in '08 and lose.
Anyone spot a pattern?
In 2008 more people thought that slick Barry would cut taxes that McCain would even though the reverse was true. So economic conservatism was still popular.
In 2008, tough measures against illegal immigration pass in Arizona and traditional marriage is reaffirmed in every state where the question is asked.
You know, maybe the Repulicans losing had something to do with the war in Iraq...
I'm just putting that out there.
